Tips to Foster Self-Belief

Okay, so we know that self-belief is important. We also know that I don't have a whole lot of it right now. So how do we turn that around?

Well it's all about changing your way of thinking according to Norman Vincent Peale.

In The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, he says that you can turn your thoughts into self-believing thoughts.
The first chapter of his book is dedicated solely to exploring how 'Believe in Yourself' is a mental attitude. By repeating positive affirmations and picturing yourself succeeding, he claims you can actually begin to start believing what you are hearing and seeing.
He also believes in challenging and defeating negative self-doubts. In advice not so different from the findings of my Don't Feed the Negativity resolution, he recommends that you:
Do not build up obstacles in your mind.
Do not be awestruck by other people, or try to copy them.

I love how self-belief is all about how we frame our thoughts. Thoughts can be challenged, defeated and changed, as I explored back in August. Which means self-belief is right within our grasp!

So I have been coming up with some positive thinking strategies that can help me to foster self-belief this month. Maybe you could give them a try too?
  • Assume the warrior pose
  • Stop saying 'if only'
  • Notice your negative self-talk and stop it
  • Set goals for yourself for the month
  • Stop comparing yourself to others
  • List 10 things you appreciate about yourself
  • Stop seeking perfection
  • Do something that scares you
  • Keep a list of compliments/positive things people say about you
Have you any of your own tips to add to this? Let me know in the comments below.
